There is news in Ramla: As part of a large-scale tourism project aimed at enhancing one of Israel's most prominent heritage sites and turning it into a central attraction for visitors from Israel and around the world, the White Tower is undergoing renovation and upgrading.

Tourism Renewal: Works to upgrade the visitor experience at the White Tower complex in Ramla have been launched as part of a large-scale tourism project aimed at enhancing one of Israel's most prominent heritage sites and transforming it into a central attraction for domestic and international visitors.

The project, located on the historic Jaffa-Jerusalem tourist route, is funded by the Ministry of Tourism and the Ramla Municipality, and is being carried out by the Government Tourism Company in collaboration with the Israel Antiquities Authority. The total investment stands at approximately 14 million NIS. The works are expected to be completed by mid-2027. Michael Itzhakov, Director General of the Ministry of Tourism, recently visited the city to closely examine the needs and opportunities for additional projects, infrastructure development, and strengthening the tourist axis in the Old City, with the goal of positioning Ramla as a leading tourist destination.

As part of the works, the entire complex will be treated and upgraded, including the White Tower and the remains in the adjacent ancient site, alongside environmental development, accessibility improvements, advanced signage, and an interactive visitor experience. Additionally, the project will develop one of the underground water reservoirs dating back over a thousand years, which will become a unique attraction featuring a large-scale multimedia show offering an innovative experience combining history, light, and sound.

The White Tower is considered one of Ramla's most prominent symbols and the most beautiful observation point in the city, located in the heart of its tourist route. Built in the early 14th century, the tower stands at a height of about 30 meters, the tallest in the city. After climbing 111 steps to the roof terrace, visitors are treated to a spectacular panoramic view of the Jerusalem hills, Gush Dan, and the coastal plain. The White Tower is also a candidate for UNESCO World Heritage status and serves as a living testament to Ramla's rich historical past.

The project is part of a comprehensive effort to strengthen Ramla's status as a significant destination on Israel's tourism map, alongside the opening of the renovated municipal museum last year and the upgrade of the Pool of the Arches complex.

Director General of the Ministry of Tourism, Michael Itzhakov: "Ramla is a city with great tourism potential that connects history, culture, and religions, and constitutes an important tourism asset for the State of Israel. In accordance with the policy of Minister Haim Katz, the Ministry of Tourism views Ramla as a strategic partner for promoting urban tourism based on heritage and experiential content."

Mayor of Ramla, Michael Vidal: "The White Tower is not just a historical symbol; it is the beating heart of Ramla's heritage. This project is part of a broad initiative we are leading to strengthen tourism in the city and make it a sought-after destination for visitors from all over the country and the world. The upgrade will allow us to present Ramla's unique story in an innovative, experiential, and exciting way, connecting a glorious past with a promising tourism future."
