On their way from their nesting grounds to the (relatively) warm wintering areas, the pink flamingos chose to stay in the pleasant pools of the reserve, and we are enjoying all this beauty.

Dor HaBonim Coast Nature Reserve is a picturesque and beautiful stretch of coastline, the most indented in the country. The site combines primordial wild landscapes and unique natural assets, and features hiking trails. Adjacent to this reserve are: the Marine Reserve, Dor HaBonim Sea Nature Reserve, and Tel Dor National Park. And this is where the pink flamingos chose to land and rest.

The flamingo is a spectacular bird in appearance; the color of its feathers is pinkish or white, or even reddish-pink. The pink color is a result of tiny crustaceans included in their diet. In captivity, to maintain their pinkish color, they receive a supplement of vegetables containing beta-carotene, such as carrots, beets, and bell peppers. They feed only on small creatures that they filter from the water using their special beak. Some species migrate vast distances on their way to water sources, even crossing over the sea.
