Passport Ensemble Performs 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' for Children
Passport Ensemble presents—amidst a complex period where reality challenges the sense of stability and resilience of children and adults alike—a new adaptation of William Shakespeare’s beloved comedy, A Midsummer Night's Dream. The production seeks to open a live and accessible theatrical space for the young audience, providing a first and significant encounter with a great classic.
Come on a magical journey through the enchanted forest, where you will meet kings and fairies, loving couples, a mischievous sprite, and even... a donkey! In one night of wonders and pranks, everything changes: loves get complicated, orders are reversed, and the imagination runs wild. Then, the greatest magic of all arrives, restoring order and love to the world.
The adaptation and direction by Yael Kramsky, alongside original rhymed writing by Dana Yadlin, makes Shakespeare accessible to ages 4-10 in clear, eye-level language, without sacrificing the humor and depth of the original work. This is an encounter that respects the intelligence of the young audience and allows them to enter a rich and multi-layered theatrical world. A central stage element in the production is the use of video art as an active part of the plot. The video is not a static backdrop, but creates a changing space and integrates into a live dialogue with the actors, as an inseparable part of the stage action.
"The play was born out of a reality that challenges the resilience of all of us, with the aim of restoring children's faith in a world that has love, innocence, and freedom for imagination," says director Yael Kramsky. "Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream succeeds in doing this because it doesn't take itself too seriously. It celebrates chaos, mistakes, and fantasy—things that children understand best."
