A Musical Summit Meeting at the Israeli Andalusian Orchestra Ashdod
The festive season finale concert, "Andalusian Duet", is presented by the Israeli Andalusian Orchestra Ashdod. The performance represents a historic summit meeting, bringing together on one stage two of the most prominent and influential voices in the world of Andalusian music today.
The evening will be led by Emil Zrihan — one of Israel's greatest liturgical singers (Paytanim) and one of the distinct symbols of the revival of Andalusian music in Israel, together with the artist Hicham Dinar — from Morocco. Dinar, a native of the city of Essaouira, is considered one of the leading and most promising voices of the young generation of artists in Morocco, breathing new life into the ancient tradition.
As part of this special performance, the two have created a musical celebration that combines the roots of deep Moroccan Piyyut (liturgical poetry) with the cultural richness of classical Andalusian music. In a rare connection of voices and traditions, the two present a rich repertoire emphasizing the influence of "Al-Andalus" culture on North Africa, accompanied by unique and spectacular orchestral arrangements by the Israeli Andalusian Orchestra Ashdod.
Elad Levy, the orchestra's Artistic Director: "Especially in these days, there is something particularly moving about this meeting on stage. Emil Zrihan, one of the central voices of Andalusian music in Israel, meets here with the Moroccan artist Hicham Dinar — an artist who brings with him the living spirit of the musical tradition from Morocco. This is a connection that reminds me how much music can bring people together, even when the reality around us is complex. I hope this concert brings the audience a moment of joy and comfort, and reminds us all of the power music has to shine even in complex times."
Shalom Lotati, CEO of the Israeli Andalusian Orchestra Ashdod: 'Andalusian Duet' is the realization of our vision: creating a living, breathing bridge between past and present, and between Israel and Morocco. The stage encounter between Emil Zrihan's voice and Hicham Dinar's freshness and virtuosity is not just an evening of fine music, but a testament to the fact that Andalusian culture is an international language that unites hearts. We are excited to end the season at the peak of a joint creation that proves once again that music is the most powerful tool for human and cultural dialogue."
