"The Gala": A Literary Night at the National Library Marking Reading Month
The National Library, the home of written Hebrew creation, invites you to "The Gala" – a night filled with literary events that are knowledge-expanding and thought-provoking. The Gala will take place on Wednesday, June 17, from 4:00 PM to 11:30 PM, featuring authors, poets, literary critics, researchers, thinkers, singers, and actors.
In an authors' marathon, we will meet some of the most talked-about writers in Israel for a conversation about their latest books and writing in general; a live radio play will bring a short story by Amos Oz to the stage; a literary trivia competition will crown this year's bookworm; a panel of literary critics and researchers will examine the question stirring the literary world today – what makes Hebrew literature Hebrew; the role of literature in these times – visceral monologues from five lovers of words and writing; a display of unpublished drafts and letters from the desks of great Hebrew writers and poets; a musical-literary journey following some forgotten writers who did not receive the fame they deserve; and much more.
The evening will conclude with a one-time original performance, "Ata Hevra Sheli" (You Are My Friend) – a tribute to the poems of Yona Wallach, featuring Eran Zur, Hami Rodner, Efrat Gosh, and Ilan Virtzberg. Nearly three decades after becoming a milestone in Israeli culture, the show returns to the stage for one night only to close the Hebrew Book Festival.
* The Gala is held thanks to the generosity of the Neubauer Family Foundation.
