Ahead of the Perseid Meteor Shower: The Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel (SPNI) Offers a Variety of Astronomy Experiences

This week, look up at the dark night sky and watch the Perseid meteor shower.

The Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel (SPNI) is offering a variety of guided astronomy experiences in Israeli nature for the whole family during the month of August, in the heart of the mountainous Negev desert, with its craters, open landscapes, and starry skies.

You are invited to a weekend combining nature, astronomy, stargazing, family activities, and a rich desert experience. Activities will include guided observations using professional telescopes and lasers, a guided journey through celestial bodies, constellations, and the Milky Way in a planetarium experience, a spectacular sunset hike to Mount Camel (Har HaGamal), and more.

Accommodations and lodging at the Har HaNegev Field School (in Mitzpe Ramon), run by the Society for the Protection of Nature.

August 7-8, August 21-22, August 28-29

* In the heart of the southern coastal plain, an evening of stars for the whole family – Telescopes, lasers, and a planetarium:

The activity includes moving between stations that combine science, technology, and fun to discover the secrets of the vast universe through fascinating experiential and interactive ways for both children and adults.

Viewing through professional telescopes, a sensory activity in the innovative immersive room, a cinematic journey between distant galaxies with a video and fascinating explanation inside a mobile planetarium, and a guided sky observation.

Three one-hour sessions, accompanied by professional guidance, at the Shikmim Field School (near Nitzanim), run by the Society for the Protection of Nature.

August 9-11, during the evening hours.

* A long weekend in the Lower Galilee: A Perseid meteor shower viewing experience under the summer sky, combined with nature, refreshing water trails, Galilean landscapes, and family activities:

The program includes activities about stars and viewing the Perseid meteor shower in the Galilean summer skies; a short and enjoyable water trail through natural pools and green vegetation at Ein Shokek and the Triple Pool; a tour of the summit of Mount Tabor, including a panoramic view of the Jezreel Valley and its surroundings; a beautiful Galilean hike in Nahal Tzalmon, combining green nature, flowing water, and shaded spots; a lantern tour and night safari in the Beit Keshet hills area; a guided visit to the fascinating historical site at the Sheikh Abreik hills – the Alexander Zaid statue and a beautiful lookout over the Jezreel Valley landscapes; and a tour of the historic Elroy railway station area and Ein Elroy on a pleasant and pastoral trail combining nature and flowing water, along with the story of the settlement and the Valley Train.
