Tmuna Theater presents 'Prophets', from a refreshing perspective

The Book of Books continues to provide us with interesting stories: Tmuna Theater presents 'Prophets' - a satirical Biblical rock opera that takes a contemporary and amused look at the second (and truly interesting) part of the Bible.

The Plot: 'Prophets' is a contemporary comic rock opera in which stories from the Biblical 'Prophets' section (yes, the 'N' in Tanakh) are given new life, performed by a musical band of prophets of doom. After the success of their first album, "Torah," they are asked by "The Big Publisher" to recreate that success with their second album, "Prophets."

Due to the complexity of the materials and the pressing demands of the head of the label (God), who tries to dictate to the Biblical writer how to write the album, tensions between the band members multiply. Will they succeed in creating a masterpiece while remaining true to themselves? Will they put tensions aside and unite against the corporate dictates of "The Big Publisher in the Sky"? Will they find the prophecy within themselves?

The Artistic Vision: The show offers a modern take and a refreshing secular approach to familiar (and less familiar) Biblical stories. 'Prophets' emphasizes the social and interpersonal aspects of the Bible, extracting relevant messages for today's Israel. Especially in a period when the secular connection to Judaism in Israel is not taken for granted, 'Prophets' joins a series of cultural works that emphasize the democratic within the Jewish, all with the help of nonsensical humor and an emphasis on music.

Background: The show's songs were written between 2016-2019 by Eyal Aharoni and Gilad Barbi. After an initial version that went up in 2020 and was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the project underwent an in-depth development process. The current version is a multidisciplinary work, combining a renewed play written by the members of the ensemble, with an emphasis on visual and theatrical language and cohesive ensemble work.
