Shamir Optical Israel Launches: Essilor® Stellest® Eyeglass Lenses
Shamir Optical Israel is launching Essilor® Stellest® eyeglass lenses – the first and only lenses in the world approved for marketing by the FDA (US Food and Drug Administration) for slowing down the progression of myopia (nearsightedness) in children. According to the results of a study conducted in the US among children aged 6–12, the lenses slowed myopia progression by an average of 71% over two years and the rate of eye elongation by 53%, compared to standard single-vision lenses. The lenses provide a significant vision solution at a time when, according to recent findings, one in three children deals with myopia issues, following a dramatic increase in screen exposure.
The earlier myopia starts and the more it progresses over the years, the higher the risk of reaching high myopia in adulthood. Studies show that high myopia is associated with an increased risk of various eye diseases later in life; therefore, the goal of professionals today is not only to provide sharp vision through glasses, but also to slow down the rate of myopia progression and eye elongation—the primary known cause of myopia—as much as possible.
Adi Eiron, optometrist and professional manager at Shamir Israel: "The advanced solution combines single-vision correction with unique technology designed to influence the mechanism associated with eye elongation, thereby helping to slow down myopia progression. It includes more than a thousand tiny optical elements arranged in 11 rings around the center of the lens, creating a special optical signal that helps slow down the elongation of the eyeball—the main factor in myopia progression in children. Thus, the child enjoys sharp vision throughout the day, while the lens helps slow myopia progression and maintains an aesthetic and natural appearance."
"Alongside fitting Essilor® Stellest lenses, there are additional actions recommended to integrate into lifestyle habits to slow myopia progression in children," Eiron adds. "For example, studies show that spending time outdoors, with exposure to the sun during safe hours, can help slow the development of myopia. Therefore, Essilor® Stellest lenses are also available as sunglasses lenses, offering a solution that combines full protection against UV radiation and glare, comfortable outdoor vision, and easy fitting in a variety of frames, without the need to stop treatment when outdoors."
Orit Valent, marketing manager at Shamir Israel: "At Shamir, we care for our customers' eye health and are excited to bring a true message to parents and children in Israel, marketing the groundbreaking Essilor® Stellest lenses for the first time—the only ones in the world approved by the FDA for slowing myopia in children. This solution adds to Shamir Optimee™ lenses, which were developed through comprehensive research and advanced technologies to provide optical solutions at the highest performance, while fully addressing the needs and concerns of parents and children, backed by a comprehensive warranty."
