SPEECH LESS: Tmuna Theater Presents an Artistic-Political Project

A dance performance that brings political discussions and speeches to the forefront through dancers. Speeches that once ignited flames and reached many ears through a single tongue now serve as a soundtrack for the visceral, living, sweating, and feeling body.

Speech-less is a dance and performance project that brings political speeches and discussions to the agenda through dancers. Speeches delivered from stages that shaped public discourse become, in this work, a soundtrack for the living, breathing, sweating, and feeling body. Words meet body, movement, and voice, and in this encounter, they acquire a new presence.

The work was born out of an ongoing engagement with the question of political leadership and a desire to expand the models we know and search for new possibilities of leadership. As someone born into a country where a prime minister was assassinated, creator Sharon Vallevsky returns to the relationship between the personal and the political, and between the private body and the public space.

Through the speeches of leaders from various periods and places—including Richard Nixon, Sojourner Truth, Alexei Navalny, and others—alongside the personal stories of the dancers, Speech-less examines how leadership looks, sounds, and feels as it passes through the body. Instead of leaving politics as a gray, frustrating, and despairing system, the work brings it closer to the audience and invites them to re-examine power, responsibility, and the possibility of imagining alternative models of leadership.

The work was developed as part of a residency at the Suzanne Dellal Centre and premiered at the Tel Aviv Dance Festival 2025, under the artistic direction of Naomi Perlov.
