A Celebration for Runners and a Festival for Wine Lovers, at the "Beaujolais Run Israel"
The Beaujolais Run Israel, which combines a run through the vineyards, good music, wine and costumes, will take place on Friday, September 19, produced by Marathon Israel in cooperation with the Gezer Regional Council. The race will take place in the heart of the vineyards of the Gezer Regional Council, a developing and impressive wine region, and will offer participants a rare combination of physical activity, European wine culture and Israeli joie de vivre. The President of Beaujolais France, Alain Boillot, will attend the event.
In France, the Beaujolais Run has for years been considered one of the most beloved sporting and social events, with tens of thousands of participants from all over the world. It celebrates the grape and wine harvest season and the motto there is clear: this is not a competitive race but a community celebration, where every kilometer along the way becomes an experiential event.
Instead of time records and competitive running - the participants will arrive in costumes, go out on a route that passes through the green vineyards of the area, and stop at extraordinary refreshment stations: alongside water and snacks, local wine tastings, rich refreshments and small parties in the heart of the road with DJs playing music in French, Greek, Israeli and other styles will await them.
The evening before the race, an event will be held at the Barkan winery and a tour of the area's wineries with the participation of the President of Beaujolais, people from the Gezer Regional Council, people from Marathon Israel and running coaches. Throughout the event, tributes will be made to the victims of the Swords of Iron war and the abductees who are still in captivity. Participants will be able to choose the route that suits them according to length and level of difficulty, with tasting stations and activities along the way: a short amateur course - 3 km, a regular course - 6 km and a challenging course - 10 km. The event is intended for ages 18 and over.
The Gezer Regional Council stated: "We call on the public to come and participate in the Beaujolais race that takes place among the vineyards in the Gezer Regional Council. The race has become a tradition that is so eagerly awaited, especially in these days when we need a little joy in our hearts. This race is not just another sports event - it is a real celebration of wine culture, nature and people and we are happy to host the runners and celebrants again among the vineyards of Gezer. The Gezer Regional Council is characterized by thousands of dunams of vineyards and is considered one of the best areas in the country for growing wine grapes. During the race, the wineries in the area will distribute tastings along the route and you will be able to meet them at the wine fair at the end of the event."
According to Ofer Padan, CEO of Marathon Israel: “We are bringing the French experience to Israel in its entirety - with lots of color, joy, and a playful wink that promises that even those who are not professional runners will be able to enjoy every moment. The Beaujolais Run Israel seeks to make wine culture accessible to the general public and to create a bridge between the world of running and health and a cultural entertainment experience. This race is suitable for everyone: for amateur runners, for families and also for wine lovers who prefer to enjoy the atmosphere more and sweat less.
Padan added: "We are happy to host the President of Beaujolais, Alain Boillot, who will come to be impressed by the Israeli spirit and the wine scene in Israel. Beyond the happy events, we are also excited to host runners from the Gaza envelope and parents whose son or daughter fell in the war, for whom such an event, as well as the involvement in sports, is part of the process of healing the soul."
