A modern adaptation of William Shakespeare's classic, a tragedy about the lust for power and the price of unbridled ambition. 5 excellent actors and one of the most famous and poignant tragedies in world drama.

The play 'Macbeth' comes to the Jerusalem Khan stage in a modern adaptation directed by Ariel N. Wolf, based on the classic by William Shakespeare. A jarring play and a fascinating production.

On a dark night, three mysterious witches prophesy to the warrior Macbeth that he is destined to become the King of Scotland. The prophecy awakens hidden ambitions in Macbeth and his wife, and the two embark on a cruel and unrestrained journey to fulfill their deepest and darkest desires. On the way to the crown, they are willing to sacrifice everything – friends, allies, family, and values—until the violence and intrigue they employ against their environment begin to consume them as well.

What happens when personal ambition overcomes morality, and when the struggle for power takes place within the home, shaking an entire society? In this new adaptation of 'Macbeth', one of William Shakespeare's greatest and most poignant tragedies, the classic story receives a contemporary, tense, relevant, funny, and bloody reading.

The new adaptation was created for only five actors: Macbeth (Yossi Eini), Lady Macbeth (Irit Pashtan), and three witches (Itai Shor, Gal Zak, Shahar Netz), who portray the various characters surrounding the couple. The three witches echo as a kind of modern chorus, putting the human soul to the test and examining the boundaries of human morality: how far is a person willing to go to realize their dark ambitions? The witches are played by three men, leaving Lady Macbeth as the only woman on stage. Thus, the political world in which the couple operates is sharpened—a world dominated by masculine power systems.

Contrary to traditional interpretations that view Macbeth as a tragic hero, the current production looks at him as an ordinary person, an individual operating within a contemporary social and political system. We look at Macbeth at eye level, get close to him, enter his home, and realize that the distance between us and him is smaller than we would like to believe. Through his intimate story, the danger inherent in power struggles occurring within the home is revealed—struggles for which an entire society pays a heavy price when the public good is pushed aside in favor of personal interest.

This new adaptation of 'Macbeth' seeks to remind us that Shakespeare's tragedy is not just a story about distant kings and battles, but a story about us – about the temptation of power, the choices we make when opportunity arises, and the disturbing possibility that within each of us hides a Macbeth, or a Lady Macbeth, waiting for the right moment to burst forth.
